The causes of sweaty palms/ armpits can be categorised into 2 categories - primary and secondary hyperhidrosis.

• Primary hyperhidrosis is primarily linked to the patient's mental and emotional state as the nervous system response mechanism is triggered by changes in temperature and emotions.
• Secondary hyperhidrosis is typically triggered when there is an underlying health condition (e.g. pregnancy, menopause, gout, diabetes), or medication/substances that causes excessive sweating

There are 2 main types of excessive sweating:

• Focal Hyperhidrosis, where there is excessive sweating with no apparent cause in certain areas of the body (e.g. armpit, hands, feet or face).
• Generalised Hyperhidrosis, where there is excessive sweating that affects the entire body, usually due to an underlying medical problem.
